JOB SUMMARY
The Lead Carpenter at SABR plays a crucial role in ensuring the completion of carpentry work to high standards of quality on construction projects. This position involves supervising carpentry teams, coordinating tasks, and serving as a liaison between the Site Supervisor and carpentry crew. The Leading Hand Carpenter is responsible for ensuring projects are completed on time and in accordance with building codes and safety regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership
Lead and supervise a team of carpenters and apprentices on-site.
Plan Execution
Interpret and execute project plans, engineering, 3D models and specifications.
Task Management
Work with site manager to schedule upcoming works across multiple projects
Plan and allocate daily tasks to the carpentry crew for efficient workflow.
Carpentry Work
Perform hands-on carpentry tasks
Implement carpentry systems that ensure works zones are set up correctly to ensure efficient processing of tasks
Use task outcome analysis to determine which tasks require high detail and where tolerances can be adjusted to increase efficiency in tasks completion
Quality Assurance
Ensure all carpentry work meets SABR quality standards and complies with AS building regulations.
Progress Reporting
Report progress to the Site Manager to manage expectations on task delivery and personnel allocation
Report issues to the Site Manager, assisting in resolving site challenges.
Tool and Material Management
Maintain tools and consumables to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
Effective use of materials to ensure minimal wastage
Conduct regular quantity surveying to ensure necessary materials are available when needed.
Work alongside Site Manager to ensure effective delivery of materials to minimise manual handling and interruption of site operations
Jobsite Cleanliness
Implement daily cleaning routines to maintain an organized and tidy work environment.
Training and Mentorship
Train and mentor apprentices, promoting skill development and safety adherence.
Trade Coordination
Coordinate with other trades and subcontractors for seamless site operations.
Activity Logging
Maintain detailed daily logs of carpentry activities for each team member, including tasks, time taken and card expenses.
Project Setup and Detailing
Complete critical site setouts according to project documentation.
Participate in 3D design meetings to pre-emptively resolve risks and deeply understand project requirements
ABOUT YOU
Minimum of 3-5 years experience as a lead carpenter
Strong leadership and coordination skills.
Advanced carpentry skills with an eye for detail.
Deep knowledge of the entire carpentry process for high-end residential construction.
Ability to read and interpret project plans and technical drawings.
Effective communication and team collaboration abilities.
Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to task management.
Commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Comfortable working at heights and in varying weather conditions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent travel to various sites within Newcastle.
May involve working extended hours and weekends to meet project deadlines.
