ROLE SUMMARY
The Site Lead at SABR is the on-site frontline leader responsible for supervising crews, managing subcontractors, and overseeing daily operations. This role supports the Project Manager (PM) in delivering safety, quality, and program outcomes, operating with a higher level of site accountability.
Working closely with the PM, the Site Manager ensures strong safety standards, high-quality workmanship, and efficient program delivery. Key responsibilities include proactive problem-solving, resource allocation, schedule adherence, and maintaining clear, consistent on-site communication to keep projects running smoothly and on track.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Delegation
Primary contact for the Project at all times.
Support Project Manager by handling day-to-day site management on the project.
Set the standard for conduct and professionalism on site.
Uphold correct standards of presentation.
Leadership and coordination of your site-team and contractors.
Mentor and training of junior staff members.
Program & Planning
Pre-Construction
Engage and document pre-construction team meetings.
Complete in-depth study of assigned project plans, engineering designs and specifications in advancement of site works. Identify potential construction issues and liaise with the management team to resolve prior to commencement of works.
Complete in-depth study of all selections and detailed specifications in advancement of site works. Identify potential design and detail finish issues and liaise with the management team to resolve prior to commencement of works.
Review Master Program ahead of site works. Identify potential program issues and liaise with the management team to resolve prior to commencement of works.
Engage in Contractor S/C agreements and conditions. Comprehend the financial terms vendors are engaged in prior to commencement of works.
Complete comprehensive pre-construction check lists.
Complete comprehensive updates and modifications to action plans - relative to works to be completed.
Review Contractor SC’s and Supplier PO’s prior to commencement of works.
Construction
Review Master Program, Monthly and Weekly lookaheads. Identify potential delays or road blocks, ahead of schedule. Liaise with the Senior Project Coordinator to resolve.
Confirm Contractor start dates, durations and completions.
Confirm Supplier deliveries, dates and times.
Identify any shortages or conflicts in resources.
Verify plant/equipment availability (cranes, lifts, scaffolding).
Report adjustments to schedule and make formal adjustments with vendors when needed.
Provide daily written reports reflecting.
Engage in weekly management briefs and documentation.
Site Operations
Organise site setup each morning (team, contractors, materials, access, tools).
Conduct daily site briefs with team and contractors.
Inspect works for compliance with drawings and specifications.
Coordinate site logistics, deliveries, plant, and access.
Manage accuracy of deliveries to correct locations to eliminate over handling.
Manage and maintain building materials.
Manage and maintain small plant and tool usage on site.
Conduct on-site quantity surveying of materials ahead of time.
Provide daily updates on progress to PM
Safety & Compliance
Conduct daily site inductions
Conduct daily safety briefs as part of the morning brief.
Complete site safety checklists.
Monitor site works and conduct real time safety assessments.
Manage and Maintain site first-aid kit.
Complete first aid course (3 yrs)
Complete CPR course (Yearly)
Resource Management
Allocate and supervise daily tasks for labourers, apprentices, and subcontractors.
Monitor productivity and ensure targets are met.
Mentor apprentices and junior trades.
Coordinate handover of work areas between trades.
Coordinate site meeting with managers, (PM) etc ahead of due time
Quality & Compliance
Complete QA thorough inspections for quality and compliance.
Complete critical stage checklists to ensure accuracy and compliance prior to commencement / continuation.
Engage and document statutory inspections with certifiers, engineers and council.
Flag and Report defects immediately (24hrs). Ensure rectification (72hrs). Defects must be completed prior to contractor sign offs.
Complete contractor sign-offs at completion of stage works.
Ensure team workmanship meets company standards consistently.
Documentation & Reporting
Record comprehensive daily site logs.
Document all site meetings. Complete meeting summaries with allocated action items. email to all required vendors.
Document and allocate task items daily, with time allocations.
Complete critical stage photo and video documentation.
Create and maintain a quality procedure checklist.
ABOUT YOU
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a construction site supervisor, with a track record of managing successful projects.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Proficient in interpreting project plans and technical drawings.
Problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to conflict resolution.
Comprehensive knowledge of the entire construction process, with a deep understanding of methods, materials, and regulatory requirements.
Proficient in technology to effectively navigate 3D models and utilise project management software on site.
Capable of physical activities including standing for long periods, walking, climbing ladders and lifting moderate weights.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent travel to various sites within Newcastle.
May involve working extended hours and weekends to meet project deadlines.
